How to Apply a Formula to Every Value with MAP in Excel

MAP runs a LAMBDA on every item in a range and spills the results — one formula instead of a filled-down column.

You will learn to

  • Transform every value in a range with MAP
  • Map over two ranges side by side
  • Build text labels for each row with MAP

How it works

MAP takes one or more ranges and a LAMBDA, runs the LAMBDA once for every item, and spills the results into a range of the same shape: =MAP(B2:B7,LAMBDA(p,ROUND(p*1.08,2))) returns six new prices from one formula.

With two ranges, the LAMBDA gets one parameter per range, taken from the same position: =MAP(B2:B7,C2:C7,LAMBDA(p,q,p*q)). This is useful when the per-item logic includes IF tests or text building that would not work as a simple array formula.

=MAP(B2:B7,LAMBDA(p,ROUND(p*1.08,2)))
