How to Average with Multiple Conditions Using AVERAGEIFS

AVERAGEIFS averages rows that meet every condition — make, year and mileage at once, or a value between two limits.

You will learn to

  • Average with two conditions
  • Average with three conditions on different columns
  • Average values that fall between two limits

How it works

AVERAGEIFS(average_range, criteria_range1, criteria1, criteria_range2, criteria2, …) averages only the rows where every condition is true. Note the order: unlike AVERAGEIF, the range to average comes first.

To average values between two limits, test the same column twice: =AVERAGEIFS(E2:E13,C2:C13,">=2018",C2:C13,"<=2020"). AVERAGEIFS is ideal for pricing guides and benchmarks where a fair comparison needs several matching attributes.

=AVERAGEIFS(E2:E13,A2:A13,"Toyota",C2:C13,">=2019")
