How to Check for Even Numbers with ISEVEN in Excel

ISEVEN tells you whether a number is even — handy for street sides, alternating weeks and every-other-item rules.

You will learn to

  • Test whether a number is even
  • Turn even/odd into a label
  • Alternate a schedule by even and odd week numbers

How it works

ISEVEN(number) returns TRUE when a number is even and FALSE when it is odd. Decimals are truncated first, so ISEVEN(4.7) is TRUE. Text that isn’t a number returns #VALUE!.

It is a natural fit for alternating rules: even house numbers on one side of the street, or a fortnightly schedule where even weeks are recycling and odd weeks are garden waste: =IF(ISEVEN(WEEKNUM(C2)),"Recycling","Garden waste").

=IF(ISEVEN(B2),"North side","South side")
