How to Convert a Range to a Text List in Excel
ARRAYTOTEXT turns a range into one comma-separated line — or an array constant — and pairs with FILTER for live summaries.
You will learn to
- List a range as comma-separated text
- Produce an array constant with strict format
- Summarize filtered results in one cell
How it works
=ARRAYTOTEXT(array) joins every value of a range or array into one string separated by a comma and a space: =ARRAYTOTEXT(A2:A6) might return "Ana, Ben, Chloe, Dev, Eli". With the second argument set to 1 (strict), it returns an array constant instead — {"Ana";"Ben";…} — with text in quotes, commas between columns and semicolons between rows, ready to paste into another formula.
The most useful pattern pairs it with FILTER to summarize matching rows in one cell: =ARRAYTOTEXT(FILTER(A2:A6,C2:C6="Yes")). ARRAYTOTEXT is available in Excel for Microsoft 365 and Excel 2024; TEXTJOIN gives you more control over the separator.
