How to Count Full Boxes with QUOTIENT in Excel
QUOTIENT returns only the whole part of a division — the number of full cartons, crates or batches you can make.
You will learn to
- Count full cartons from a quantity
- Count full cartons from a weekly total
- Combine QUOTIENT and MOD to pack in two sizes
How it works
QUOTIENT(numerator, denominator) divides and throws away the remainder. =QUOTIENT(148,12) returns 12, the number of full dozen cartons you can fill from 148 eggs. Pair it with MOD to get the leftovers: =MOD(148,12) is 4.
QUOTIENT truncates toward zero, so =QUOTIENT(-7,2) is -3 while =INT(-7/2) is -4. For positive quantities like stock and packing, QUOTIENT and INT(a/b) agree.
