How to Count Workdays with Custom Weekends Using NETWORKDAYS.INTL in Excel

Count working days for a Tuesday–Saturday salon, a Wednesday–Friday part-timer, and a schedule with closure days.

You will learn to

  • Count working days with a Sunday–Monday weekend
  • Count only specific weekdays with a mask
  • Exclude a list of closure dates

How it works

NETWORKDAYS.INTL(start_date, end_date, weekend, holidays) counts the working days between two dates, including both ends, with a weekend you choose. Code 2 means Sunday–Monday off (typical for salons and restaurants), code 7 means Friday–Saturday off.

For part-time patterns, use a 7-character string starting on Monday, where 1 is a day off: "1100011" counts only Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Add a range of closure dates as the fourth argument to remove those days too.
