How to Find a Chi-Square Critical Value with CHISQ.INV.RT in Excel
Use CHISQ.INV.RT to find the chi-square cut-off for a survey or cross-tab, then turn a statistic into a verdict.
You will learn to
- Find the critical value for a goodness-of-fit test
- Find it for a two-way table
- Compare a statistic with the critical value
How it works
CHISQ.INV.RT returns the chi-square value that cuts off a given right-tail probability. If your chi-square statistic is larger than this critical value, the result is significant at that level. =CHISQ.INV.RT(5%,3) returns about 7.815.
The degrees of freedom depend on the test: categories − 1 for goodness of fit, and (rows − 1) × (columns − 1) for a two-way contingency table such as age group by subscription plan.
=CHISQ.INV.RT(0.05,3)
