How to Find the Last Business Day of the Month in Excel
Schedule month-end payroll on the last weekday, skip company holidays, and find the last Friday of any month.
You will learn to
- Return the last weekday of a month
- Skip holidays when finding month end
- Find the last Friday of a month
How it works
To find the last business day of a month, start from the first day of the next month and step back one working day: =WORKDAY(EOMONTH(A2,0)+1,-1). If the month ends on a weekend, WORKDAY lands on the Friday before; add a holiday range as the third argument to skip public holidays too.
For “the last Friday of the month”, subtract the right number of days from the month end: =EOMONTH(A2,0)-MOD(WEEKDAY(EOMONTH(A2,0))-6,7). Change the 6 to another weekday number for a different day.
=WORKDAY(EOMONTH(A2,0)+1,-1)
