How to Find the Minimum Record with DMIN in Excel

Use DMIN to find the lowest value among matching records — like the cheapest supplier quote that also ships fast.

You will learn to

  • Find the lowest value for one condition
  • Add a numeric condition such as lead time
  • Compare two DMIN results to price a trade-off

How it works

DMIN returns the smallest value in one column among the records that match a criteria range. For a buyer comparing quotes, =DMIN(A1:E13,"Unit price",G1:G2) gives the best price for whichever part is typed in G2.

Add a second condition such as Lead time (days) / <=7 on the same criteria row to find the cheapest quote that also arrives within a week. Subtracting the two DMIN results shows exactly what fast delivery costs per unit — multiply by the order size to see the real money.
