Highlight Overdue Dates

Make past-due dates jump out automatically — and label them with a formula.

You will learn to

  • Highlight dates before today
  • Label rows Overdue / On track with IF and TODAY

How it works

Select the due dates, choose Conditional Formatting → Highlight Cells Rules → A Date Occurring, or use a formula rule such as =B2<TODAY(). Because TODAY() recalculates, the highlight moves forward on its own every day.

To label each row, use =IF(B2<TODAY(),"Overdue","On track").

=IF(B2<TODAY(),"Overdue","On track")
