Insert and Delete Rows
Add a missing row in the middle of a list — and remove one — without breaking your totals.
You will learn to
- Insert a row above the selected cell
- Delete a row
- See formulas adjust automatically
How it works
Select a cell in the row where the new row should go and choose Insert → Row above (in Excel: right-click → Insert, or Ctrl + Shift + =). Everything below moves down one row. To remove a row, select a cell in it and choose Delete row (Ctrl + −).
Formulas that refer to the list adjust automatically: a total of =SUM(B2:B5) becomes =SUM(B2:B6) when you insert a row inside the range.
