How to Multiply Matching Records with DPRODUCT in Excel
Use DPRODUCT to multiply values for matching records — ideal for combining stage yields into an overall yield.
You will learn to
- Multiply stage yields for one product
- Multiply only the stages that meet two conditions
- Use the overall yield to plan production starts
How it works
DPRODUCT multiplies the values in one column for the records that match a criteria range. That is exactly what you need for chained percentages, such as the yield of each production stage: if four stages keep 98%, 95%, 97% and 99% of units, the overall (rolled throughput) yield is their product, about 89.4%.
Change the criteria cell to another product and the overall yield updates. Dividing the number of good units you need by that yield tells you how many units to start, which you can round up with ROUNDUP.
=DPRODUCT(A1:D11,"Yield",F1:F2)
