How to Multiply Numbers in Excel with PRODUCT
PRODUCT multiplies a whole range at once — box volumes, quantity × dimensions and stacked price factors.
You will learn to
- Multiply a row of dimensions
- Include a quantity in the same range
- Apply a chain of price factors to a total
How it works
PRODUCT(number1, [number2], …) multiplies all of its arguments, including whole ranges: =PRODUCT(B2:D2) is the same as =B2*C2*D2. It is handy for volumes (length × width × height) and for chains of multipliers such as a base rate with several surcharges.
PRODUCT skips empty cells and text inside ranges, so a blank cell does not turn the answer into zero. That is different from =B2*C2*D2, where a blank counts as 0. If nothing numeric is found at all, PRODUCT returns 0.
