How to Pull a Single Record with DGET in Excel
Use DGET to fetch one value from the single record that matches your criteria — and handle no match or several.
You will learn to
- Look up a value by one criterion
- Look up a value by two criteria
- Handle the #VALUE! and #NUM! errors
How it works
DGET returns one value from the single record that matches a criteria range. It works like a lookup with as many conditions as you like: put Type and Floor side by side in the criteria range and DGET finds the one room that fits both.
DGET is strict on purpose. If nothing matches it returns #VALUE!, and if more than one record matches it returns #NUM! — a built-in warning that your conditions are not specific enough. Wrap it in IFERROR to show a friendly message instead.
