How to Round Up to a Pack Size with CEILING.MATH
Round order quantities up to the next full pack with CEILING.MATH, then count packs and price the order.
You will learn to
- Round a quantity up to a multiple of the pack size
- Convert units into packs
- Price a whole order in one formula
How it works
CEILING.MATH(number, significance) rounds a number up to the next multiple of significance. If plates come in packs of 25 and you need 130, =CEILING.MATH(130,25) returns 150 — the smallest quantity you can actually buy. Divide by the pack size to get the number of packs.
Unlike ROUNDUP, which works in decimal places, CEILING.MATH works in any step size: 6, 12, 24, 0.25 or 500. For negative numbers it rounds toward zero by default; set the mode argument to 1 to round away from zero instead.
