How to Stack Lists Vertically with VSTACK in Excel

Combine two branch stock lists into one, sort the combined list and count the distinct items across both.

You will learn to

  • Append one range below another
  • Sort the combined list
  • Count distinct items across two lists

How it works

VSTACK(array1, array2, …) appends ranges one below the other and returns a single array. =VSTACK(A2:B7,D2:E6) combines two branches’ stock lists into one, and the result updates when either list changes. The ranges should have the same number of columns; missing cells are filled with #N/A.

Once stacked, the list can go straight into other functions: SORT it to rank every line from both branches together, or run UNIQUE on the stacked item names and count the rows to see how many different products the business carries.
