How to Sum the Top N Values in Excel
Add up the largest 3 (or any N) values with SUMPRODUCT and LARGE, then measure how concentrated revenue is in your top customers.
You will learn to
- Sum the three largest values with an array constant
- Make N a changeable input with SEQUENCE
- Calculate top-customer concentration
How it works
LARGE(range,k) returns the k-th largest value. Give it several k values at once — the array constant {1,2,3} — and wrap it in SUMPRODUCT (or SUM in Microsoft 365) to add the three largest: =SUMPRODUCT(LARGE(B2:B11,{1,2,3})). The list doesn’t need to be sorted.
To make N an input, generate 1…N with SEQUENCE(E2). A common use is customer concentration: divide the top customers’ revenue by total revenue. If your top three customers bring in over half of revenue, losing one of them is a serious risk.
=SUMPRODUCT(LARGE(B2:B11,{1,2,3}))
