How to Sum with a Criteria Range Using DSUM in Excel
Use DSUM to total a column for records that match conditions typed into a criteria range on the sheet.
You will learn to
- Total one field for records matching one condition
- Add a second condition on the same criteria row
- Combine two DSUMs into a ratio
How it works
DSUM adds up one column of a table, but only for the rows that match conditions written in a criteria range on the sheet. The criteria range is a copy of the column header with the condition underneath it, so anyone can change "Riverside" to "Hilltop" and every DSUM updates — no formula editing needed.
Conditions on the same criteria row must all be true (AND). The field can be the header text in quotes, such as "Revenue", or a column number. Two DSUMs divided by each other give quick ratios like revenue per kilogram.
