Use INDEX and MATCH

The classic flexible lookup that works in every version of Excel.

How it works

MATCH returns the position of a value in a list; INDEX returns the item at a position. Together: =INDEX(D2:D6,MATCH(G1,A2:A6,0)). The 0 in MATCH requests an exact match.
