How to Wrap a List into Columns with WRAPCOLS in Excel

Arrange a long list into columns — a printable pick sheet, months grouped by quarter, and a total for any quarter.

You will learn to

  • Wrap a list into columns with padding
  • Group monthly values into quarters
  • Total one column of a wrapped array

How it works

WRAPCOLS(vector, wrap_count, [pad_with]) fills a column with wrap_count items, then starts the next column. =WRAPCOLS(C2:C11,4,"") turns ten SKUs into a compact sheet of columns four items tall, with the empty slots left blank instead of #N/A.

It is also a quick way to group a series: twelve monthly values wrapped every 3 become four quarter columns. Because the result is an array, INDEX(…,0,n) can pick out one quarter and SUM can total it, all without rearranging the data.

=WRAPCOLS(B2:B13,3)
