How to Wrap a List into Rows with WRAPROWS in Excel

Split a long list into rows of a fixed size — seating tables, rebuilt records from a one-column export, and a sorted plan.

You will learn to

  • Wrap a list into rows of n items
  • Rebuild records from a one-column export
  • Wrap a sorted list

How it works

WRAPROWS(vector, wrap_count, [pad_with]) takes a single row or column and wraps it into rows of wrap_count items. =WRAPROWS(A2:A13,4) turns twelve guest names into three tables of four. If the list doesn’t divide evenly, the gaps are filled with #N/A unless you supply pad_with.

It is also a fast fix for exports that put every field in one column — name, email, phone, name, email, phone… =WRAPROWS(C2:C13,3) rebuilds one record per row. Wrap a SORT inside it to lay out the list alphabetically.
